I am so incredibly thankful for the many blessings, privileges, and responsibilities I have in my life.  But most of all, I am most fortunate that I have the opportunity to share many great things with some truly remarkable friends.  

 

If it is true that your life is rich because of the purpose that drives you - and I do believe this to be true - I am truly wealthy where it matters most.

 

Okay, a hectic but delightful Thanksgiving Day has come and gone - there was a wonderful Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, a lot of waving, and a silly lady who I continue to enjoy so much with being the silly lady that she is.  And there was lots of family, too many courses of food - I did make room for several of my mother's spectacular riceballs - and just enough time to get ready for  'Black Thursday Night' and' Black Friday', which, after giving it two seconds of thought, never happened.  Instead, I decided a small second helping of pumpkin pie sure would beat joining the cattle-call of eager shoppers waiting in line for a bargain.

 

So I did what I think any civil person should do: I embraced 'Cyber Monday' with great enthusiasm!  For a few hours, and while listening to Peter Gabriel's incredible music, including 'Don't Give Up' . . . and so, I shopped!  And I must admit, I really enjoyed myself!

 

Despite all the activity, and there was a lot going on, I never thought sight of what I was thankful for.  As I said, joining my 'top of the list', and inclusionary of my family's safety, happiness, and health was the great blessing of friendship I have been fortuante to share and embrace.

 

My work in the world of storytelling has allowed me to see the world over and over again.  I am thankful that these possibilities have allowed me to evolve into the thoughtful person I continue to aspire to be.

 

I am also so thankful that by embracing my voice as a storyteller, which requires courage and belief in yourself, I have been able to impact others in a positive way in my capacity as the Founding Director of the I CARE Foundation.  God knows I have a lot to say about protecting children from international child abduction.

 

And I have been blessed to know gentleness despite much time I spend in the darkness fighting against kidnapping of children.  In hindsight, I think knowing what it is like to be a parent Chasing The Cyclone of abduction has increased my capacity to love deeper, richer, and compasionately. 

 

 I truly am thankful for all I have in my life.  I see what I do have, not what I do not.  I embrace those in my life, while respectfully remembering those who have passed in a way that reminds me that they have never left - but instead -that I need to rethink how I see and feel them.  I love being a storyteller - which I view as a wonderful adventure as oppossed to work.  I actually love my professional work - which is quite different than the adventures I have as a writer, but none-the-less equally fulfilling, and I embrace with vigor and purpose my volunteer activism fighting against abduction as a board member of the I CARE Foundation, assisting children who are learning to fight challenging illnesses, and of course, celebrating literacy and our imaginations.  And through the many challenges I have had in my own life, I am so thankful that through them, I have learned to see the magic that exists around me each and every day.  It may have taken some time, but I am so thankful that I have learned how to embrace wonderment.  And God knows just how thankful I am to have help make a difference in either bringing home a large number of kidnapped children or protecting them from abduction.  Yes - Chasing The Cyclone has helped build many miracles.

 

Most of all, I am thankful that there is so much love around me and in my life.

 

Perhaps it is not a coincidence that the I CARE Foundation logo is a heart with little hands on it . . . and that is more than pretty cool.

 

So even though I am a little late in sharing my perspective about Thanksgiving and all that I am deeply appreciative of and for, here I am letting my family, friends, fellow activists, and my readers from all over the world know you have all given me so much to be thankful for. And if I have sent this message specifically to you - it comes from the heart - Thank You for being a part of an incredible year. I am truly thankful you are in my life.

In my capacity as the Founding Director of the I CARE Foundation, I would like to bring to light that international parental child abduction is on the rise.

It has taken me nearly a year to share my thoughts as the Founding Director of the I CARE Foundation.  However, with the Christmas Holiday Season on us ... which is also one of the times of the year when international parental child abduction is at a high-point, I thought it was time I shared a message on the official website of the I CARE Foundation.

Lincoln - A Remarkable Film About An Incredible Man

Last night I went to see Steven Spielberg's 'Lincoln' starring Daniel Day Lewis, who I believe is the best actor ever to appear in film.   As expected, Mr. Spielberg's storyline, drawn from the extraordinary book publication about President Lincoln written by Doris Kearns Goodwin and the high-octane screenplay of Tony Kuschner (I once was a shareholder in one of Tony's production companies), portrayed a man so courageous, so benevolant, so intelligent, and so steeped in morals, that his life will forever change the course of the human race.

I was inspired.  I am inspired.

Clearly, Abraham Lincoln faced great challenges during his presidency, and Lewis delievers these challenges perfectly in Mr. Spielberg's brilliant film.

In these challenges, Lincoln never waivered.  He followed the course.  He believed.  And he let his faith in his belief guide him to do what was right.

As an advocate fighting to protect children from internatinal abduction and human trafficking, there are times when it appears the wall we try to push back does not move.

I really appreciated seeing 'Lincoln' last night.

Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!

Do yourself a favor, seriously: go and see Lincoln.  It very well might make you ask yourself this question:  How can I be a better person?

Peter Thomas Senese: The Office Of Childrens Issues

The United States Department of State's Office of Childrens Issues is made up of some of the most caring individuals on the planet who really care about the issues connected to international parental child abduction.

Over the past year I have been working on a report about the Office of Childrens Issues.  Granted, there are many frustrations met by parents who have been targeted by abduction.  The reality is that under existing law, OCI can only act in a way Congress annexed.

More to come in the near future . . .

Off To Washington - Fighting To Protect Children - Interviews and A Little Insight

U.S. Department Of State Seeking Attorneys To Fight Against Child Abduction

I CARE Foundation Continues Recruitment Campaign: The U.S. Department of State Seeks Attorneys to Join The 'Hague Convention Attorney Network'

The I CARE Foundation continues its effort to assist The Department of State's Office of Children's Issues recruit lawyers interested in participating and assisting parents involved in international family law and child abduction cases to join the "Hague Convention Attorney Network". The Department of State's attorney network offers attorneys the opportunity to assist a child who has been abducted, but also offers a mentor program where lawyers with limited experience in the growing field of international family law can be mentored by some of the most skilled international family law attorneys in the nation. According to the I CARE Foundation, the surging growtih in the number of international child abductions and prevention cases in the United States and abroad has created a substantial need for more trained attorneys in the United States who are familiar with international family law.

The I CARE Foundation is urging lawyers interested in assisting the parents of children who have been internationally parentally abducted or who may be targets of international parental abduction to participate in the Department of State's "Hague Convention Attorney Network". The State Department's attorney network offers lawyers interested in joining the network with significant personal and professional opportunities, including the opportunity to increase their own skill-set and professional practice by being mentored by some of the nation's most experienced lawyers who practice international family law.

Joel S. Walter, an lawyer practicing in New York, a member of the I CARE Foundation, and a member of the Attorney Network said, "Having been involved in complex federal litigation cases for 40 years, I have to say that participating in the Department of State's "Hague Convention Attorney Network" has been extremely rewarding on a personal level because I am able to assist children who really need help. But there is another side to this for attorneys who practice or are interested in family law, and that is that the knowledge and experience you may gain by participating in the Department of State's attorney network is priceless. And for all lawyers, but particularly young lawyers starting out in their career, becoming an expert in an area is critical. As international abductions continue to rise to unthinkable numbers, there is a great need for skilled lawyers. How can an attorney gain this much needed experience? By participating in the "Hague Convention Attorney Network."

Unquestionably, international family law and the need for skilled and educated attorneys familiar with this area is growing substantially. In fact, there are over 1,640 'reported' cases of International Parental Child Abduction originating from the United States according to the last published report issued from the Department of State to Congress. This number has nearly tripled since 2006 according to a recent report issued by the Government Accountability Office's ("GAO") recommendation to create a airline screening list for American citizens considered by the courts to be high-risk child abductors. According to the recently published resource guide "The World Turned Upside Down" written by Peter Thomas Senese and Carolyn Vlk, the growth rate of international abduction is conservatively estimated to be at 20% per year. According to the publication, from 2009 to 2020, if growth rates continue there will be over 50,000 American children criminally abducted abroad. The same publication, as cited in the special report titled 'Crisis In America' cites that it is estimated that there could be between 50,000 and 75,000 unreported cased of international child abduction originating from the United States during the same period. Furthermore, the number of incoming cases originating from a foreign country to the United States has also increased at rates similar to outbound cases.

The anticipated case load does not include or forecast litigation involving international child abduction prevention litigation. I CARE Foundation director Peter Thomas Senese commented, "The number of international child abduction prevention cases that the foundation is involved with are significant and represent more cases than actual abduction cases - which on its own account are substantial and growing. Unquestionably, this is a growing field of law and there appears to be a shortage of qualified attorneys practicing in this arena I think primarily because society as a whole does not realize their is a severe epidemic before us."

The Office of Children's Issues in the U.S. Department of State serves as the U.S. Central Authority for the Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction (the "Convention"). The International Child Abduction Remedies Act ("ICARA"), establishes procedures for litigating Convention cases in the U.S. The U.S. Central Authority has numerous functions including facilitating the institution of judicial proceedings in the U.S. "with a view to obtaining the return of the child and, in a proper case, to make arrangements for organizing or securing the effective exercise of rights of access." In April of 2008, the U.S.Central Authority assumed the responsibility for all incoming cases, and overseeing a network of volunteer attorneys.

The "Attorney Network" provides critical assistance. Lawyers that join the "Attorney Network" are asked to consider taking Hague Convention return and access cases on a pro bono or reduced fee basis. There is never an obligation to take a case, and legal fees and expenses may be recoverable under the Convention's Article 26 and the implementing statute (42.U.S.C 11607), and under state law when state law remedies are pursued (e.g., UCCJEA). In addition, lawyers with and without Hague experience are welcome to join the Attorney Network, as the Attorney Network offers a host of information and mentor programs. In addition to incoming cases of abduction, attorneys can also represent parents in abduction prevention cases and outgoing abduction cases.

Patricia M. Lee, a Florida attorney practicing in the area of parental child abduction and a member of the I CARE Foundation states, “I feel privileged to have been a referral attorney for the implementing agency for many years of my private practice. The trauma experienced by victimized children and parents when faced with a child abduction, especially in the international arena, is overwhelming, primarily due to the lack of experienced attorneys, but also, due to the great financial burden, and cultural and language barriers. When they have nowhere else to turn and are so desperate, being able to help these people has been a rewarding experience personally, as well as professionally. It is worth every hour I have spent climbing the learning curve in this little known area of the law. OCI has always been responsive and helpful in the practicalities of dealing with clients living abroad, and the network of mentor attorneys available across the U.S., nothing short of a wealth of information and assistance. My experience in taking these cases has been humbling, to say the least, as I have seen the very best of my profession, which is too often the object of jokes and derision. I would encourage any attorney to join the Attorney Network.”

Le temps des fêtes et International enfant enlèvement

À la suite de l'ouragan Sandy et les ravages qu'elle a apporté à la New York - New Jersey agglomération, je veux partager un message très important que nous sommes maintenant sur les fêtes de Noël, qui signifie qu'il est également un des moments importants où beaucoup d'enfants sont enlevés à l'étranger par un parent de l'autre.

Comme dans tous les cas d'enlèvement parental, ces crimes contre les enfants sont bien pensé, bien planifié et conçu pour attraper un parent ciblé au dépourvu et sans méfiance qu'un régime horrible est en cours d'avoir leur enfant. 

Et les régimes qui finit par voir des enfants enlevés ou détenus illégalement à l'étranger sont effectués dès maintenant.

Toutefois, si vous connaissez les signes avant-coureurs de chercher, les parents ont une chance équitable de la protection de votre enfant ou les enfants d'enlèvement. 

Avec 100 000 à 125 000 enfants américains et de 12 500 à 20 000 enfants canadiens signalés à attendre d'être sur la scène internationale ont enlevé au cours des dix prochaines années ne pas STICK YOUR HEAD IN THE GROUND : enlèvement parental est un panemic qui vole en silence les enfants. 

Ne laissez pas vos enfants être enlevé. Renseignez-vous.

Il faut savoir seulement environ 10 % de tous les enfants enlevés à l'étranger jamais revenir à la maison. 

Ce que l'on cherche

Dans de nombreux cas d'enlèvement transfrontalier enfants survenant au cours de la période des fêtes, le plus grand nombre d'incidents a lieu généralement quand un parent se rend dans un autre pays avec leur enfant ou les enfants d'une relation accompagné ou avec le consentement initial de l'autre parent. 

En général, le voyage se déroule sous un couvert d'un voyage de vacances à l'étranger pour visiter des membres de la famille du parent qui a l'intention d'enlever. Bien sûr, le parent ciblé est désemparé quant à ce qui se passe réellement. 

Ainsi, par exemple, père X est né et élevé au Moyen-Orient mais marié femme Y, qui est citoyen américain. Le couple vit aux États-Unis, où leur enfant est né et a grandi. 

Inconnu de la femme dans le relatioship, le mari veut mettre fin à la relation et de déménager dans son pays d'origine dans le Moyen-Orient. Toutefois, il a un seul problème : il sait que sa femme ne permettra jamais que pour lui de prendre légalement l'enfant avec lui.

Donc au lieu d'annoncer son intention véritable pour séparer, le mari va créer détournement une importance cruciale. Ce qui signifie, qu'il va faire tout son possible pour rendre sa femme à croire qu'il est heureux et engagés dans la relation. 

J'ai dit tout mettre en oeuvre. 

Pourquoi ? 

Car il est essentiel qu'elle posa sa garde et pas soupçonner un schéma ou un jeu déloyal.

En attendant, petites choses - qui sont vraiment grandes choses - peuvent se dérouler visiblement ou à l'insu du parent ciblé. Il y a de nombreux signes avant-coureurs de chercher, mais si les subtilités ne constituent pas soigneusement, puis le ravisseur potentiel va sortir avec leur plan.

Si le mari qui a l'intention d'enlever l'enfant de détenir illégalement l'enfant à l'étranger continuera à créer une façade d'être heureusement marié et s'est engagé à la relation lors de la mise en page avec soin un plan visant à obtenir l'enfant à l'étranger.

Par la suite, et à droite sur cette période de l'année, le ravisseur soi-disant fait la suggestion que ce serait « bien » ou « gentil » ou « significative » de voyager à l'étranger ensemble ou sans l'autre parent (selon les circonstances raisonnables) afin de voir ses parents, frères et sœurs et la famille élargie. Et bien sûr, tout cela est dans l'intérêt supérieur de l'enfant du partenariat. 

Maintenant, étant donné que l'épouse peut croire le mari s'engage à leur relation et ne considère pas encore qu'il ait intention de ne pas regagner leur domicile conjugal, elle est plus que probablement disposée à consentir pour les vacances. 

Malheureusement pour la mère et l'enfant, le voyage se déroule. 

Inconnu à la fois, le parent qui a l'intention d'enlever a déjà éclos un bien pensée plan, y compris ce qui peut être nécessaire de garder l'enfant à l'étranger lors de la suppression des droits de l'autre parent à l'enfant à l'étranger. 

Tout est tromperie - et tout ce que doit être considéré. 

Par exemple : le mari peut expédier certaines affaires comme un berceau ou une poussette et autres éléments de l'enfant qui peut créer l'appearnace de l'autre parent savaient il déménageait - et a donné le consentement ! Ou bien, il aurait commencé à déplacer ses avoirs à l'étranger. 

Une fois à l'étranger avec sa femme et enfant, le serait-être le ravisseur peut faire des fausses accusations d'abus d'enfant ou pour conjoint (hommes et femmes prétendent abus en cas d'enlèvement prévu), des réclamations de consommation de drogues ou toute autre réclamation pouvant indiquer que l'enfant est en danger.

En déclarant que l'enfant est en danger, cela pourrait permettre un tribunal local à l'étranger pour lui accorder la garde immédiate de l'enfant - même si la compétence de l'enfant est dans le pays, ils sont nés et ont grandi. En outre, dans les cas où une demande de la Haye peut être déposée, le ravisseur a jeté au sol pour un Article 13 la défense (qui s'articule autour du meilleur intérêt de l'enfant). 

Si cela semble compliqué, il s'agit. 

Il est important pour les personnes mariées ou dans une relation avec des partenaires qui proviennent de pays non parties telles que celles qui se trouvent en Asie, Afrique et Moyen Orient pour comprendre que si vous voyagez aux nations situées dans ces zones et l'autre parent veut ne pas retourner l'enfant dans le pays de compétence en première instance, il y a de fortes chances qu'ils réussira à garder l'enfant à l'étranger... et votre interlocuteur sera limitée ou acquitté complètement. En outre, il est important de porter une attention particulière aux pays de la Convention de la Haye non conformes tels que l'Allemagne, du Brésil, Mexique et Pologne. 

Bien sûr, si jamais, vous prévoyez de voyager à l'étranger et ont été impliqués dans un suspecious ou une relation tendue, veuillez communiquer avec un avocat qui est familier avec la prévention de l'enlèvement parental international d'enfants. 

Bien que je ne suis pas un avocat, je vous conseille fortement que vous envisagez d'obtenir une ordonnance du Tribunal avant le voyage que l'enfant doit être retourné. Toutefois, n'oubliez pas - dans les pays qui ne sont pas parties aux traités internationaux concernant l'enlèvement ou ne satisfont pas à ces traités - si un enfant est emmené - il sera très coûteux et difficile d'amener votre enfant à la maison. 

Alors - si vous avez n'importe quel suspecion qui pourrait prévoir l'enlèvement - et cette période de l'année est la période de planification pour le nombre élevé d'enlèvements de vacances de Noël qui se produisent - demander l'avis d'un avocat qualifié - et ne laissez pas vos enfants voyagent à l'étranger dans toutes les circonstances. Faites attention aux signes avant-coureurs et agir maintenant!

Comme beaucoup le savent, je m'engage à non seulement accroître la sensibilisation au sujet de l'enlèvement d'enfants, mais par le biais I CARE Foundation je suis le Directeur fondateur de, je suis absolument déterminé à arrêter l'enlèvement en créant de nouvelles lois et policiies permettant d'empêcher l'enlèvement ou réunir les enfants qui ont été enlevés. Et, lorsque cela est possible, la Fondation pour les soins je ne ferai pas ce qui est nécessaire pour contribuer en toute sécurité et légalement un enfant à la maison - quelque chose nous l'avons fait à plusieurs reprises jusqu'à présent cette année. 

Je suis heureux de partager mon roman profondément inspiré Que Chasing The Cyclone continue d'avoir un impact significatif sur un nombre important et croissant d'enfants et de parents ciblés de l'enlèvement international. 

En fait, le cours naturel des événements à partir de la première publication de e-book de Chasing The Cyclone conduit à la création du autofinancé non-lucratif I CARE Foundation. Je suis heureux de partager que grâce aux efforts de la j'ai des dizaines de Fondation pour les soins des enfants qui ont soit été internationalement enlevés ou qui ont été la cible d'enlèvements internationaux ont soit été en toute sécurité réunis avec leur famille ou ont été effectivement protégés contre l'enlèvement et restent en toute sécurité la maison. 

C'est une déclaration assez importante si l'on considère que les efforts de réunification de bénévoles de la Fondation représente un nombre remarquable de tous les enfants américains qui sont venus chez.La vérité est, la majorité des enfants ne viendra jamais maison. Certains ne peuvent tout simplement peuvent : ils sont partis pour toujours.

Et ce sentiment n'est pas un morceau de fiction : c'est la réalité. Et c'est nul. Et il convient de se lever et se battre pour.

Je pense que pour n'importe quel auteur, le plus grand objectif lors de l'écriture d'un livre est d'avoir un impact sur votre public cible.Le succès financier d'un livre est évidemment importante ;Cependant, le désir d'influencer les autres est l'intention réelle.

Et avec des dizaines d'enfants secouru ou protégé contre l'enlèvement jusqu'à ce jour, combinée avec les nombreuses initiatives I CARE Foundation est en cours qui permettra d'aider les autres, je suis heureuse avec un impact de Chasing The Cyclone jusqu'à présent. Mais il y a un long chemin à parcourir.

 

Après avoir vu personnellement les horreurs de l'enlèvement, je m'engage à continuer ce combat. Fort heureusement, les gouvernements de partout dans le monde sont d'avis du je travail de CARE Foundation - qui signifie que nous faisons une différence.

En fait, le mois dernier, j'ai eu la chance de participer dans le département d'État États-Unis des « International Visitor Leadership Program » à la Mission des États-Unis auprès des Nations Uniesconcernant l'avancée du travail de la Fondation dans l'enlèvement d'enfants et de prévention de trafic humaine. C'est un grand honneur, particulièrement lors de l'examen de certains des leaders mondiaux incroyables qui ont déjà participé au programme.

Incontestablement, la publication de "Chasing The Cyclone" a contribué à beaucoup de parents et d'enfants:nouvelles lois ont été adoptées, nouvelles politiques mises en œuvre, et de nouvelles dispositions législatives qui pourraient freiner l'enlèvement et le trafic est à l'horizon - enfants sont maison.

Mon engagement financier à l'i CARE Foundation et le soutien des efforts de l'ONU pour aider les enfants reste constant tant qu'il est partagé par j'ai membre du jury de soins, membre du réseau d'avocat de la Convention de la Haye et hautement respect avocat Joel Walter dans un article très gentil, il partage sur son site Internet. En fait, j'ai fait don de 100 % de l'ensemble des produits de mon roman divers l'an dernier à l'I CARE Foundation : c'est un engagement que j'ai l'intention de continuer (en dehors du mois de novembre, quand tous les profits seront versés pour aider les victimes de l'ouragan Sandy).

A Very Enlightening News Story About How Peter Thomas Senese and the I CARE Foundation Help Protect Children

Like every parent who has chased into the storms of international parental child abduction, I have been to He!! and back.  There is nothing that I can compare what it is like to be a chasing parent searching for your child.

During the time I was Chasing The Cyclone, I made a promise to do my best to help other parents and children targeted for abduction.  It is not easy to do because so many parents need help.  Also, it is important to be mindful who receives assistance. For example, I can't imagine helping a chasing parent who would beat the other parent ... and though this is not the norm by any means ... it has happened.

Nevertheless, the majority of targeted parents are victims of an evil and abusive plot by the other parent who uses a child's abduction in order to cause the other parent pain and suffering. 

Do these abductors realize what they are doing to the child they abuse?  NO. 

Recently the Examiner published a fairly detailed article about the I CARE Foundation and my efforts to help children fighting cancer or who are targeted for international parental child abduction. The published story has a theme that I appreciate outside of my advocacy work, and that is books really can and do make a big difference in our lives.  Chasing The Cyclone has done that for a large and growing number of parents.

In the meantime, I urge all parents, particularly those involved in multi-cultural relationships that show signs of previous or ongoing strain to remember that the Christmas Holiday Season is a hightened time of the year when children get internationally abducted.  Please do not think this issue is not important to you - most every parent who has had their child stolen by the other parent didn't feel it was important either; however, with as many as 125, 000 American and 20,000 Canadian children expected to be internationally abducted over the next 10 years - it is worth 2 minutes of your time to understand.
